Log and Security Event Management (SEM)

The organization and management of LOG records is handled by LogManagement system. However, LogManagement alone does not meet the requirements for advanced monitoring systems. It cannot accumulate logs and identify cyber security events and incidents by subsequent correlation. It does not use any threat management model, but only some analytical tools such as statistics.

Although it does not fulfil the potential to prevent cyber threats, it is an important tool for retrospective forensic investigations. Central log management is today the minimum tool to fulfil the term "security event management".
